Dr. Kevin Pernicano
Dr. Pernicano is a licensed psychologist with a Health Service Provider designation, Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He is a generalist with over 40 years of clinical experience helping individuals and families to manage life stressors. He strives to encourage his clients towards self-sufficiency and resiliency whenever possible, and to advocate for their health and wellness. He is a collaborative and engaging psychologist, a generalist employing multiple approaches to psychotherapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT).
He completed an APA Accredited Psychology Internship at the VA Medical Center in North Chicago, IL. He has served on a variety of community and public agencies, including membership on the KY Board of Examiners in Psychology, was awarded the Distinguished Career in Psychology Award by the KY Psychological Association, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Counseling Psychology. He completed a 37-year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs which included six years as a civilian psychologist at Ft. Knox and retired after serving as Chief of Mental Health at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY. In 2017, Dr. Pernicano came to San Antonio to pursue work at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. He has also worked as a Ministerial Assessment Specialist with the Board of Ministries for the United Methodist Church, Rio Conference, and as a private practitioner in the San Antonio area.
